Born on August 14-th 1950, in Filipeni village, Republic of Moldova, Dumitru Gheorghiu was the last of six children to peasants family. Music became his passion after listening on the radio popular moldovan singers of those times. His "musical training" was made up on valleys where he the sheep.
14-yers old boy he left his village and came to Chisinau. He entered the professional school where he spent 2 years.
Passioned in sports as well, in 1 year of
practicing badminton he earned the first place of Chisinau competition, and the third place of Moldovan competition. Various sports diplomas followed up.
His stage debut came on
The tenor Dumitru Gheorghiu works in arts domain for two and a half decades. The program of his artistic activity is very diverse: opera arias, canzonets, operettas, folk music, international music, all interpreted in the original (eight languages). He went on a series of tours in more than 40 countries in Europe, Asia, South and North Americas.
He is director of two musical films (classic and folk music)
- As follow of the President’s Decret nr.40 dated March 12, 1993 awarded with the onorific title of „Arts Master”.
- Laureate of the 1-st international Festival "Music World", Italy 1998 (2-nd place).
- „Avram Iancu” diploma and medal for the outstanding contribution to the romanian art performances in the world.
- Diplomas for the great services in Culture and Musical Art promoting.
